If you are planning to rent a motorbike to roam around Bohol, it is possible. However, some destinations are too far from Tagbilaran or Alona Beach - like the Chocolate Hills. Public transport, on the other hand, is not frequent. Sometimes you will wait for 30mins for the next bus in some rural areas.

There are four areas you may choose to stay in:

Alona Area- beach front/ food choices/ nightlife

Dumaluan Area- better beachfront

Panglao- countryside scenery/ food choices

Tagbilaran City- city life/ food choices

For first-timers, I recommend staying in the Alona area but for a chill and nice beach experience, go for Dumaluan.

The shrine is located along the highway. The statues that depict the blood compact of Miguel Lope de Legazpi and Sikatuna are one of the highlights of Philippine history during the colonial period. Nothing else to see here, but there are souvenir shops in this area.

Historical churches in Bohol were built during the Hispanic Era but suffered from great damages during the 2013 earthquake. But these churches are now rebuilt and open to the public. The usual stop in package tours is the Baclayon Church.

It's a total experience to enjoy lunch on a river cruise. It is buffet-style, and there are singers aboard to entertain guests. Also, there are pit stops by the river to watch traditional dances and choral singers.

Keep quiet as you walk by the habitat of Tarsiers in the forest. These cute little nocturnals are territorial. There are guides in the area to point you where these primates are sleeping.

This half-century-old man-made forest is located in between the town of Loboc and Bilar. It was primarily built for the reforestation project back in the '50s and later became a tourist attraction. You will pass by this two-kilometer highway of mahogany trees on your way to Chocolate Hills.

You will be amazed as you see hundreds of hills over the horizon. The view deck in Carmen has the perfect vantage point to appreciate this unusual collection of hills. The hills turn brown during the dry season that gives the impression of chocolate cones. But when grass covers the hills, it becomes matcha flavored. Lol!

Just two islands - Virgin and Balicasag Island- but definitely not-your-usual island hopping experience. You can be a joiner or rent your own boat for a whole day tour. The early bird catches the dolphin, so start your tour early morning.

Alona Beach is on Panglao Island and is just 3kms away from Panglao International Airport. I recommend staying in hotels near this area so you can have plenty of food choices and happy hour on your Bohol trip. The beach, however, is not as pleasing as Dumaluan's. If you want a chill trip with exclusivity, try the hotels near Dumaluan Beach.

The beach, sand, and scenery is way better here compare to Alona's; however, the food choices are limited. Try staying at Bohol Beach Club or South Palms to get the best view and chill experience in this island.

Skipping breakfast for 6am calltime to catch the dolphin is a noteworthy trade off. Pray for a good weather so dolphins will surely hop to say hi! Its a total experience to see these creatures joining the ride as if wanting to showoff.

The Virgin Island of Bohol has the vibe of the 1995 movie 'Waterworld'. They set up food stalls on the sandbar and you can eat in the area with your legs underwater. They serve barbeques, coconuts, smoothies, and grilled fishes. Be mindful of your trash and dispose it of properly to keep the cleanliness of the area. The water is still crystal clear so they still maintain the area. However, during low tide you can't experience the Waterworld vibe :/

This round shape island is off the coast of Panglao. You will notice that the water is mesmerizing blue and can be witnessed during a perfect sunny day on your way here. Tours offer snorkeling and diving activities here. You can also spot turtles and even swim with them underwater. This island is a must experience when you are at Panglao.

Part of the island hopping tour is snorkeling at Balicasag's Fish Sanctuary. The first 30mins is for chasing the turtle and they are hard to beat underwater. Lol. The second 30min is snorkeling at the coral area. Lucky if you will see the school of fish circling around you, but a clown fish showed up during my dive. You may rent a GoPro at the briefing area or at your tour agency.

There are tour agencies that offer scuba diving in Panglao. If you have a license and a few more days to spend, try Panglao underwater sites. I have friends who recommend doing scuba diving in Panglao. I just tried the beginner's dive, just a few meters down but the sight is overwhelming already.

In early 2015, this restroom was featured in one of the tv shows in the Philippines. The interior of this Shell's restroom was renovated to give comfort to their customer's toilet experience. We asked our tour to include this in one of the stops.

Try their ice cream. They have bizarre flavors like charcoal, malunggay, guyabano, dragon fruit, and spicy ginger. A scoop is priced at Php60. they have branches in Alona Beach and at Tagbilaran City.
